unded the company, Apple Computer's leadership has always been provided by other men. In 1977, two important figures were added to the executive staff of the company. The first was Mike Markkula, former head of marketing at Intel Development Corporation. Markkula joined on as Chairman of the Board at Apple, and he played a leading role in finding investors for the new company. In addition to raising $600,000 from investors, Markkula took a chance by providing $91,000 of his own money (Slater, 1987 p. 313). This money was very important in the early expansion of the organization. The other person who was added in 1977 was Mike Scott, who served as the company's first President. Scott had a talent for organization, and through his leadership Apple Computer attained its first successes in the industry. By the early 1980's, however, the organizational structure of the company began to undergo some major changes. Wozniak retired from Apple in 1981 because he wanted to move on to new projects.
