The review is brief and somewhat surprising in the sense that the reader is left to wonder whether the clinical variables studied are to be considered as "consequences" of homelessness rather than simple correlates of the problem.

Clearly, the descriptive approach of the research does not justify claims that any examined variables are consequences of homelessness. As is the case with many descriptive studies, no hypotheses or research questions are formulated.

Subjects in the study were drawn from several participating Massachusetts shelters; however, it was noted that some shelters refused to participate in the study and this may have limited sample representativeness, especially because some shelters refusing participation stated that they felt the level of negative clinical variables in shelter guests were so high that they did not want them bothered.
