Laboratory Experiment This laboratory looked

This laboratory looked at some of the factors which affect the rate of a reaction.

A beaker was filled to one third full with crushed ice and water to half full and allowed to reach equilibrium. A second beaker was half-filled with tap water and allowed to reach room temperature. A third beaker was half-filled with hot tap water. The temperature of the water in each beaker was determined and recorded. An Alka-Seltzer tablet was added to the beaker of iced water and the time in seconds taken for it to completely dissolve was recorded. The process was repeated for the other two water temperatures.

Two beakers were half-filled with tap water and allowed to reach room temperature. Into one beaker was placed an Alka-Seltzer tablet broken into 5-10 pieces, and the time taken for it to completely dissolve recorded. Another Alka-Seltzer tablet was ground to a powder using a pestle and mortar and added to the second beaker of water and the time taken for it to completely dissolve recorded.

A beaker was half-filled with vinegar and allowed to reach room temperature. An Alka-Seltzer tablet was added and the time taken for it to completely dissolve recorded. A second beaker was half-filled with room temperature water and table salt added and the mixture stirred until no more salt would dissolve. An Alka-Seltzer tablet was added and the time taken for it to completely dissolve was recorded.
