Nurses are responsible for assessing their own competence and seeking help when they find responsibilities are beyond their competence (ANA/Provisions 4-6, 2003). They are responsible for updating their education on a regular basis to keep up to date with new advances, and collaborating with others such as nurse educators to improve their knowledge and skills.
