Regarding these goals, Russell and Bowlus (1984) note that a good many psychosocial interventions are designed to not only offer support for change and the need for change in sex offenders' lives but also to use educative means of teaching them about their condition. For example, many pedophilic sex offenders utilize denial and rationalization for their behavior and can be taught that their assumptions are invalid.
