The LCCE consists of four major components: (1) the competencies, (2) school, family, and community relationships, (3) stages of career development and learning, and (4) the career roles. The competencies are 22 competencies and 97 subcompetencies that focus on the skills needed for a successful career. School, family, and community relationships encourage the interaction of a wide array of personnel to help students realize the goals of career education. The career development and learning component of LCCE consists of four stages: career awareness, career exploration, career preparation, and career assimilation. The career roles component takes the primary focus off traditional paid employment and includes family roles, citizenship roles, and avocational roles as well.
