According to Wolfgang and Ferracutti (1967), violence as a form of deviant social behavior is predicated of a whole range of attitudes and beliefs that an individual forms as a result of persistent exposure to cultural (or more exactly subcultural) norms that reward violent or aggressive behavior. This is not a biological explanation but one predicated of observations or assumptions about the authentic nature of the social structure; to that extent it is positivist in nature. Therefore, this theory would support the idea that if a female were to grow up in an environment in which enacted violent behavior were an acceptable or predictable mode of social interaction and living, whether such behavior were predicated of class or of the social environment of Women's Liberation, she would be more likely to justify or rationalize (and so enact) violent beha
