According to the pluralist viewpoint, the fact that there are numerous groups with varying interests competing against one another means that no one group can ever actually hold power for very long. Andrew M. Greeley, a professor of sociology at the University of Arizona, has provided an argument for the pluralist position. Greeley admits that some people have more power than others and that some of the most important political decisions are passed "by a handful of men" (Greeley, 1989, p. 14).
