of all the five sources of power discussed in class. First, his power is legitimate, bestowed on him by the company in giving him the job of liaison. This allows him to talk to management on behalf of the employees and to employees as the representative of those in charge. This legitimacy is also the reason that the workers buy into his lie about the deal he has made to produce 15,000 cars in one month.

He also uses coercive power with both groups. He wheels and deals to get the deal with management, and then sweet-talks the men into trying to achieve the ambitious production goal.
