In terms of engagement at Imani House, this phase usually covered the first few sessions of counseling with clients. During these phases, I worked to get clients to discuss their reasons for being at Imani House and what they hoped to accomplish both during their time here and later. In other words, both short and long-term goals were examined, explored and discussed.

I also participated somewhat in working with clients during the graduated engagement phase as well by providing them with referrals to a variety of programs including 12-Step and faith-based programs. Further, I helped them to get documents required at various service providing agencies that they were to go to.
