Religious Feelings. The mean for religious feelings was 3.02 with a standard deviation of 1.19. Levels of religious feelings of participants were as follows: 29.2 percent reported being slightly religious, 29.2 percent reported being moderately religious, 18.8 percent reported being very religious, 14.6 percent reported being extremely religious, and 8.3 percent reported not being religious at all (Table 6).

Sexual Orientation. The most common sexual orientation was heterosexual. Regarding the sexual orientation of participants: most reported being heterosexual (79.2 percent), 10.4 percent reported being bisexual, 6.3 percent reported other, and 4.2 percent reported being lesbian (Table 7).

What are African American attitudes toward homosexuality? The mean for homosexual attitudes was 2.88 with a standard deviation of .487; scores ranged from 1.42 to 4.20. For statistical analysis, pro-homosexuality attitudes were reverse scored, thus high scores (5) reflected pro-homosexuality attitudes and low scores (1) reflected negative-homosexuality attitudes.
