Jones (1992) assessed the efficacy of self-help group therapy with a group of 52 women suffering from anorexia nervosa. Treatment outcomes were found to be associated with the time spent in the group. Of the 52 women in the group, the condition of 56 percent improved overall, with all women who remained in the group at least 12 months registering some degree of improvement, while 86 percent of the women remaining in the group for a minimum of six months improved. The major difficulty associated with women remaining in the group was problems between individual group members.
