augen, Evans, and Kim (1996) investigated the experience of the users of a levonorgestrel-releasing contraceptive implant (NORPLANT) and reasons for early removal. Two hundred fifty-one (251) women who had NORPLANT implanted through the Ohio State University Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology were sent a questionnaire that included general demographic questions and questions concerning pre-placement education, reasons for choosing NORPLANT, problems experienced because of NORPLANT, reasons for removal of NORPLANT, if applicable, and overall satisfaction with NORPLANT. A total of 107 completed and usable questionnaires (44 percent) were returned and analyzed. The analysis found that 21.6 percent of patients had NORPLANT removed, a further 28.8 percent planned on early removal of NORPLANT, and 49.6 percent desired continue use of NORPLANT.
