h-bay hangars. Both lives and property are placed at risk in high spaces when the prediction of smoke movement and the detection of smoke at distant sites are deficient in either accuracy or efficiency (Klote, 1998).
The issue of smoke movement and smoke detector sensitivity in high-bay hangars is especially important because of the combination of human life and economic assets that are placed at risk in the event of disastrous fire. High-bay hangars are used by space agencies, aircraft and aerospace manufacturers, airlines, aircraft maintenance organizations, warehouse facilities, warehouse-type retail stores, and military air arms around the world. Large numbers of humans work daily in such facilities, which in and of themselves are enormously expensive, on aircraft and aerospace vehicles, the economic value of which far surpass that of the facilities themselves (Gott, Lowe, Notarianni, & Davis (1997).
It is important, therefore, for fire safety engineers, security management, and others to have valid info
