Companies that implement ERP are able to monitor their supply chain performance better than companies lacking ERP, and this can provide a significant competitive advantage to companies. This focus comes from the greater transparency across the company as a whole, and the integration of supplier and customer input into the organization. For many companies, this emphasis on supply chain management is new; for other companies, ERP simply expands the ability of the company to concentrate on supply chain issues ("Production Engineering" 39).
