dom they believed that they had lost "back home." These newcomers joined like-minded people in these communities who previously had been outnumbered by urbanites holding more liberal ideas. Blue-collar workers streamed into the area from Southern California to work at the Boeing complex and at the many firms that supported Boeing in the Everett area in the center of the district. Most of these workers were union members; however, their commitment to the Democrats was less strong than that exhibited by 2nd District voters in the past. The numbers of high-income suburbanites swelled in the southern areas of the 2nd District as older bedroom communities for the Seattle economy expanded and new bedroom communities formed. These new suburbanites were by an large strongly committed Republicans.
