The prostate gland lies in the pelvic cavity and surrounds the urethra. It produces semen, the fluid in which sperm are ejaculated from the penis. Enlargement of the prostate with aging can put pressure on the urethra, causing urinary problems, and can interfere with erection of the penis (Baldwin, 1991, p. 136).
