Lange's commentary provides perhaps the best example of exegesis and exposition concerning Matthew 28:18b-20. The King James Version employs language here quite similar to the Latin of the Vulgate in use by the Roman Catholic Church. Both versions have translated the Greek ((((((?(((( in verse 19 as "teach" (L. docete) instead of the more correct "make disciples of" all nations. Lange's translator points out that the construction of the Greek has led at least one commentator to write that the power of Christ be used "go therefore?and subdue," although Christianity is not something to be forced upon the world.

Meyer expands the understanding of ((((((?(((( when he states that "This transitive use of the verb is not met with in classical Greek." His explanation is that in this new convenantal relationship, "every one who becomes a believer is conceived of as standing to Christ in the personal relation of a (((((?(" (disciple).
