There has, however, been some international research in this regard. For example, Nica-Udangiu (1983) utilized a registration method whereby all psychotic disorders of students entering the college system were recorded and used to examine the incidence and prevalence of schizophrenic disorders (including schizophreniform psychoses, schizoaffective psychoses, and borderline psychotic cases) encountered in the Romanian student population.

An incidence of rate 0.093 percent and a prevalence of 0.667 percent were found. However, rates displayed marked variations depending on the academic year and the type of higher learning institute. Similarly, in a study of schizophrenia at Kyoto University in Japan, Inenami (1974) found about a 0.3 percent incidence.
