Existential psychology tends to exemplify a fulfillment modern of personality theory. It emphasizes as a core concept freedom of choice and commitment. This in direct contrast to classical psychoanalytical systems which tend to depict conflict models. In this respect, existential psychology tends to be placed in the same category as the systems developed by Adler, Maslow, and Carl Rogers û all of whom stress self-fulfillment as the dominant motive in the development of personality.
