In one bar, as she sits primly reading Mario PuzoÆs The Godfather, she spies a manic, good-looking stud (Richard Gere) peeking into a womanÆs open purse left casually on the bar. He sees her smiling at him, makes a half-hearted attempt to pick her up, then walks out with an entirely different woman. A few weeks later, this time in possession of a copy of the Bible that her mother has slipped into her bag, she sees him again. He has forgotten that they have met before, and they come to know one another as Anthony and Sonia. The two prove to be well matched, interested in casual pleasure without much emotional commitment.
