This project will show a strategy for introducing homeopathic healthcare into an established institution, the Leominster Hospital, which was founded in 1909 on a site on Merriam Avenue by Dr. Francis H. Cohan. The hospital moved to a site on the George S. Jones estate on Blossom Avenue in 1911. In 1923, Leominster Hospital moved to its new location on Hospital Road. Its history is one of growth and increasing its service to the community that it serves. A major development came in 1971 with the building of the Foster Wing.
The hospital mission is stated on its web site. ôAt the Leominster Campus, plans are underway for a new $25-$28 million building that will house new Operating Rooms, a Radiology Wing, Critical Care Unit and an expanded Emergency Departmentö (ôAbout Leominster,ö Online). The hospital operates as a division of HealthAlliance, a fully integrated healthcare delivery system serving 1 million people in the communities of North Worcester County. The alliance consists of Burbank and Leominster Hospitals, The Highlands, Fairlawn Nursing Home, HealthAlliance with Physicians, Inc. and the Diversified Visiting Nursing Association & Diversified Medical Equipment Services (ôHealth Allianceö Online).
