The Nostra Aetate ôaffirmed that the Jews as individuals were no more responsible for the death of Christ than Christians were.ö Pope Paul closed the final period by expressing regret for actions causing the great schism between the western and eastern churches. Pope Paul also formally established a series of provisions to help propel the work of the Council that had been developed during Vatican II.
