We see that the differences between cultures is an aspect of HofestedeÆs cultural dimension of long-term orientation. In a study conducted by Welles-Nystrom (1997, p. 279), the research concluded that ôFeminist ideology clearly influenced the timing of the American womenÆs first birth but was not evident in Sweden. Women in the U.S. exhibited more nonconventional behavior and attitudes, whereas Swedish women were more conventional.ö In Sweden, timing of first birth is connected to a rite of passage into adulthood, while in the United States women are waiting until they approach midlife.

There are other cultural differences related to HofestedeÆs cultural dimension of masculinity, which is greater in the U.S. than in Sweden. In Sweden, women have more institutional power and social benefits than women in the United States. Likewise, the level of violent crime is lower in Sweden
