These similarities are joined by numerous others in these two different civilizationsÆ accounts of the great flood that was estimated to have actually occurred in approximately 5000 B.C., (McInnis, p. 53).

There are other similarities in the flood stories provided by Genesis and Gilgamesh. Both the God Ea in the Babylonian version picks one individual above all others to save a handful of animals and humans, Utnapishtim. In the Genesis account, the Hebrew God selects Noah as the human being who represents the faith in and reverence toward Him that he demands from human beings. Both of these Gods mandate a giant flood to cover the earth as the only means of restoring mankind to good.
