The womenÆs movement in America has been a combination of many movements, with different goals and different approaches from consciousness-raising to public lobbying. Wood (2005) highlights the difficulty of such complex designations as ôfeminist,ö while exploring different feminist constructs within womenÆs movements. Chapter 4 provides an overview of menÆs movements in America, a movement of less involvement than the womenÆs movement primarily because white men ôalready had the rights and privileges that have been and continue to be the goal of womenÆs movementsö (Wood 2005, 82). From the Promise Keepers to the Million Man March, Wood (2005) highlights the fact that the menÆs movements in America have been as ôdiverse and contradictoryö as those of women (102). It is interesting to note that Wood highlights the Million Man March of Minister Louis Farrakhan as a means for African-American men to identify themselves apart from mainstream menÆs movements but she does not bring up the fact that FarrakhanÆs views are often sexist, racist and anti-Semitic.
