The good news about bullying is that a variety of studies have shown it can be undermined through effective interventions. The Committee for Children conducted two studies that show that ôIntegrating anti-bullying and social and emotional skills lessons into school classrooms dramatically reduces aggressive student behaviorö as well as creating additional time spent on academics (New, 2005, p. 15). Such education and awareness interventions also showed that bystanders are more willing to intervene and defend classmates who are being bullied.

There are a number of negative cognitive conditions that arise from the impact of bullying. Henry (2004) maintains that both physical and psychological characteristics emerge in victims of bullying, including ôàweakness, clumsiness, low motivation and aptitude for sport; poor playground participation, low energy levels, low pain tolerance, and low confidenceö (p. 23). Bullying is often targeted at children who are perceived as weaker than others by aggressors, creating a cyclical process wherein self-image is undermined in victims of bullying.
