d fair to myself because I believed I was making the best decision. As such, I would say my ethical principle for this scenario would be that difficult personal decisions should not be made without deliberation, and trusting oneÆs instincts in the final analysis is often best. A rational process that did not deny the usefulness of instinct was employed in reaching this decision. All things being relatively equal between the two candidates, I decided that the candidate known to me on a personal level would be the best candidate for the position and for the organization of which I am a part.

In the above deliberations the ethical dilemma was manifested because I had to consider the value of personal friendship versus the value of personal integrity with respect to professional roles. I decided that my personal integrity is as valuable as any friendship, for I would make a poor friend indeed if I had no integrity.
