Despot King of Scotland, Macbeth, Dies In Battle With Malcolm.

Macbeth, who ascended to the throne by murdering its rightful occupants, died in a battle with Malcolm. While avenging the murder of his father, King Duncan of Scotland, Malcolm killed the despotic King of Scotland, Macbeth. Macbeth ruled Scotland for a period of months before his death. Projected to be in his forties, Macbeth rose to prominence in DuncanÆs court by virtue of being a great killing machine. The former Thane of Glamis was known for a ôVaulting ambitionö that best expressed itself on the battlefield, where he was once known to have ôunseamÆdö a foe ôfrom the nave to thÆ chopsö (Shakespeare I.vii.27; I.ii.22).

Perhaps more than his military prowess, MacbethÆs ambition most clearly defined the man. Macbeth is known to have experienced visions of wild imagination, a condition of which his wife, Lady Macbeth, who proceeds him in death, once said, ôMy Lord is often thus,/And hath been from his youthö (Shakespeare III.iii.223-223). MacbethÆs ambitions were said to be fueled by his visions of future kingship. His accomplishments as Thane of Glamis spurred King Duncan to make Macbeth Thane of Cawdor. However, as Duncan lie sleeping a guest of Lord and Lady Macbeth, the newly minted Thane of Cawdor allegedly conspired with his wife to murder the sleeping king.

Once he had seized the throne, MacbethÆs bravery and courage on the battlefield were abandoned for despotism once he ruled Scotland. On MacbethÆs orders, murderers began killing off anyone who threatened his rule, including MacduffÆs wife and children. DuncanÆs children, who fled immediately upon news of his death, were accused by Macbeth of murdering the dead king. Macbeth was said to be able to maintain a certain passivity in the face of the murders he carried out or ordered, being spurred on in moments of infirm purpose by his wife, Lady Macbeth.
