Cab Driver (2005)

There are a number of characters in this film. Kamal is the protagonist. He is a taxi driver who seeks opportunity in the U.S. so he can earn a green card and bring his wife and daughter to America. KamalÆs wife and daughter Zohra, are not with him but are central characters in the story. We are introduced to them by the videotape of his daughterÆs birthday that is sent to him in a care package by his wife. Kamal also has a picture of Zohra hanging on his dashboard of his cab. His wife and Zohra represent the reasons for his sacrifices and the reason for his hopes of making it in America.

Mulay is KamalÆs best friend and he owns and runs a convenience store with the help of his son, Tahar. Mulay and Tahar are KamalÆs main source of social support while in the U.S. However, they also relate to the theme in that Mulay has experienced some success in America as the owner of his own convenience store. His son, Tahar, likewise is significant to the theme of the film. He represents the hopes and ambitions Kamal has for his own daughter, Zohra, since Tahar is being educated in American schools and knows more at a young age than his father or Kamal.

There are four other characters in the film, four of the passengers who ride in KamalÆs taxi. These passengers are all significant to the theme of the film. The first man, Barry, shows that some strangers are kind to immigrants. He inquires about KamalÆs family and, when he learns Kamal is trying to make enough to have them come to America, he provides Kamal wi
