In contrast to OedipusÆ hell-bent determination to expose the murderer of Laius, Hamlet is ambivalent about avenging his fatherÆs death. Eventually, however, Hamlet becomes determined that vengeance is his fate. As he tells Horatio, ôNot a whit, we defy augury.
