Its fundamental ideas as based on the inherent worth of the individual. The goals of therapy in person-centered therapy evolve from the needs of the client for self-acceptance. Rehabilitative clients often experience feelings of low self-worth and low self-esteem. The therapist in person-centered therapy seeks in a non-directive manner to assist the client in confronting strange and unknown and even threatening feelings that distort self-images and prevent the client from achieving congruence between his or her self-image and feelings. Confronting hostility, for example, can lead to a reduction in this negative feeling.

The functions and role of the therapist in client- or person-centered therapy include a non-directive approach. The therapist does not give answers or interpret what the clients says or probe for unconscious conflicts or even steer the client onto certain topics. H
