He values them and considers his family loyalty to be important, he is shown to be a trustworthy man who makes good judgments about people, therefore his judgment of his brothers must also be sound and his decision to avenge the death of one of them must be righteous and just. His triumph over the Clantons at the O. K. Corral reaffirms the importance of his connection to his family, and he visits his brother's grave to make that connection explicit in a poignant graveside speech.

At the start of Rio Grande, Yorke seems to be a loner whose only family is the Army, but the unexpected appearance of his son and, shortly following, his wife, prove that he, too, has a more biologically-connected family.
