The United Nations

Members of the United Nations, they agree to accept the obligations of the UN Charter (UN.org ôHow the UN worksö).

While the UN does help to resolve international conflicts and develop policies on matters affecting everyone, the UN is not a world government and it does not legislate. When resolutions are presented at the UN, all the Member States, regardless of the size, status, or wealth, and regardless of their political views and social systems have a voice and a vote (UN.org ôHow the UN worksö).

The United Nations has six main parts. Based in at UN Headquarters in New York are five of them ù the General Assembly, the Security Council, the Economic and Social Council, the Trusteeship Council and the Secretariat. The sixth, the International Court of Justice, is located at The Hague in the Netherlands (UN.org ôHow the UN worksö).

The General Assembly is the representative body of the world. It is the place where all UN Member States are represented and have an equal voice. It is the "parliament of nations" and it meets to consider the world
