Staffing Plan

A staffing plan is a key planning document for determining how a business will be staffed. It should be a "roadmap of how your business gets from the real situation to the ideal" ("Staffing Plan"). Essentially, the staffing plan maps out how many people need to be hired, what their skill levels must be, and how the finding and hiring of staff will be accomplished. "Ideally, you should plan your staffing around your business, not your business around your staff" ("Staffing Plan"). For a business to run smoothly, the right staff must be in place to carry out its daily operations, so finding and acquiring that staff is a critical function in a business startup.

A staffing plan will be developed for a new scrapbooking store. This scrapbooking store will be a large facility with a trained staff that can assist customers at all levels of scrapbooking ability and experience. Since scrapbooking is a hot interest in the craft realm, new techniques and products are coming out virtually every day, so staff would need to be not only brought up to speed initially but continually taught and trained so as to be responsive to customer inquiries. New products would constantly be introduced, with which the staff would need to be familiar not only knowing whether the store carries these or not, and where they are located, but how to use them.
