of goods and services they would be interested in purchasing. Viewing that country/era in retrospect, one sees that food, clothing, and fads were the most marketable items in the Soviet economy. People stood in line to buy food, and groceries often ran out. Soviet-made clothing was of poorer quality, as were appliances. Soviet washing machines and dryers were models of much older and more basic vintage than those available in the United States at the time. Fads such as rock music and blue jeans were popular, and Soviets bought them on the black market. I would have started with the production of more and better food, aiming at a society where people no longer had to use food vouchers or stand in line to obtain food. Then, I would have concentrated on the production of better clothing and higher-quality manufactured goods.
