Since these problems originate in youth, the educational system which includes the role of the school psychologist is viewed as a major source of resolving these issues. This group of professionals is now being called on to assist in prevention of health and social problems among students. School health programs are attempting to address physical illness and injury, mental health problems, pregnancy, hunger, substance use, and fear of violence, in addition to educational assistance. The school psychologist designs individualized educational and health plans and responds to concerns such as physical, sexual, and emotional abuse being experienced by students.
