Davies and Chancler (1996) also reported differences found between public and private schools related to crime. The type of school was related to crime, with public school students having more knowledge of and experience with crime and threats; these students were also more likely to fear becoming a victim. Reports of student victimization in public schools were at four percent and those for private schools were at one percent. Larger schools were not associated with worry about crime or actual victimization compared to smaller schools. Worry and victimization was not found to differ by student race or school racial composition. Boys (14%) were more victimized than girls (9%).
