Previous research has determined that many factors, such as leadership communication, job security, job fairness, job training, and individual characteristics, are associated with job satisfaction and performance. However, more recent research has found that factors labeled as psychic income are predictive of job satisfaction and performance (O'Connell, 2001). Thus, effects of psychic income need to be investigated. Previous research has also determined that individual characteristics such as gender, may mediate perceptions of job satisfaction (Babin & Boles, 1998). Thus mediating variables, to include gender, race, and work department, need to be investigated as well. It is expected that there will be a positive relationship between psychic income and job satisfaction, and psychic income and job performance. It is also expected that there will be significant effects of mediating variables.
