Child Trafficking, BioEthics, E-Commerce

Three pressing issues on a global level are not on the syllabus but need immediate corrective action to resolve, these being (1) Child Trafficking; (2) Biotechnology Rules; and (3) E-Commerce Rules.

Child trafficking is a widespread and pervasive practice in many parts of the world, including South Asia, Latin America, and even the United States. Millions of young girls and boys have been kidnapped, sold by their parents, or lured into prostitution. The problem is growing and targets the most vulnerable citizens of the world, young children, many of them not even teens when they are sold or kidnapped. Poverty is one aspect of the problem, since many parents in poor nations like India or Vietnam sell their children because they cannot afford to keep them. Another aspect of the problem is loose enforcement of anti-prostitution laws in many nations, where the practice thrives and children in their teens or younger are most highly desired.

This may be one of the biggest issues facing individuals on a global level. Where do we draw the line when it comes to biotechnology and its rapidly increasing capabilities? Should we permit the cloning of human beings? If we do clone human beings should we clone them as fully-fledged citizens or merely to harvest them for body parts or organ reservoirs? Should we clone soldiers to fight, thereby saving the lives of conventional human beings? These and other issues will continue to confront those of the not-too-distant future as the capabilities of scientists and biotechnology continues to approach the ability to clone human beings. Aside from these issues, there are a host of moral, religious, legal, and other aspects of biotechnology that will need to be considered.
