Arguments for Transhumanism

Transhumanism is the philosophy that people are able to and should develop to higher levels in all areas. Thus, people should become more than human physically, mentally, and socially with the use of rational methods. Transhumanism is a commitment to going beyond human limits and even extending the lifespan. Intelligence is to be increased along with knowledge and to be more than human means to have control over life, personality, and identity. A human being that goes beyond being human can even leave the planet at will using reason, science, and technology. New technologies, within the transhumanism perspective will change the world to the degree that people will no longer be human (Sandberg 1).

Thus, transhumanism refers to going beyond biologicals and intellectual inheritance and beyond the limits of the physical environment, culture and sociological history, and any other limits to become more than human. Technology is the most effective tool to reach this goal. Transhumanist principles include the working with others to reach these goals, whether they regard seeking fitness and health, intellectual goals, or financial success. Social and political success must also go beyond typical limits. This quest allows the human being to adapt to the now ever-changing universe and deal with people from all different backgrounds. Transhumanist principles also discourage anything that gets in the way of this growth to be more than human (Sandberg 1)
