My passion for the healthcare field is the result of a hardship in my youth. My father was a successful lawyer in India but sacrificed his career so that he could build a better life for our family in America. My parents worked at low-wage grocery store jobs while the four of us lived in a one-bedroom apartment and my parents put together the business plan they needed to obtain their own convenience store franchise. Health insurance was too expensive for our meager budget, and our life without healthcare helped me to recognize how vital and precious this resource is. My desire to work in the healthcare industry grew out of this recognition that the healthcare profession provides the most important service to people of any other. The first step in reaching my goals was to obtain my biology degree at the undergraduate level. In addition to attending school full-time, I was also working in my parents' store full-time--a difficult and quite daunting experience and one that made a negative impact on my academic record. When my father underwent knee surgery and I took his place operating the business full-time while continuing with my full-time academic studies, I learned the art of balancing tasks and managing my time to become efficient and productive, as well as indefatigable under pressure.
