In 1967, the Israeli Palestinian conflict heated up during what is also known as the Six Day War (Isseroff 1). During this conflict, Israel occupied the West bank and Gaza Strip, an area of approximately 2,200 square miles that is a major source of conflict between Arabs and Jews to this day (Isseroff 1). Various peace efforts since then have focuses on the West bank and Gaza Strip, but Israel has continued to expand its settlements there since the Six Day War.
