Hitler Youth

For Aryan German youth in Nazi Germany, the Nazi party had a youth movement that "emphasized activism, physical training, NAZI ideology, especially nationalism and racial concepts, and absolute obedience to Hitler and the NAZI Party" ("Hitler Youth," 1998). Since Hitler wanted to capture the hearts of Germany's youth and indoctrinate them in his ideals, he forced all boys to report to a neighborhood office where they were checked for racial background and registered for compulsory membership in the Hitler Youth organization, which it has been pointed out was not like the Boy Scouts but was more similar to the Soviet Young Pioneers ("Hitler Youth," 1998). Hitler's goal was to obtain "a generation of 'victorious active, daring youth, immune to pain," and as such he prohibited intellectual training as being "damaging to German youth" and worked on hardening the boys ("Hitler Youth," 1998). They were put through an intensive Nazi propaganda program, and the Hitler Jugend was formed to provide replacements for the SS and for pre-military training ("Hitler Youth," 1998). The Jugend had special units whose main purpose was to train youths as specialists in certain specific branches of the military ("Hitler Youth," 1998). When the Nazis seized power in 1933, all independent youth groups were either absorbed into the Hitler Youth group or done away with, and by 1935 60% of Germany's youth had been enrolled in the youth movement ("Hitler Youth," 1998). Part of the training for the boys was brainwashing in Antisemitism ("Hitler Youth," 1998).
