only way we can get relief is to shift our attention from things to God, allowing Him to come into our heart and fill it with His boundless love for us and replacing our empty idolatry with a sweet communion with Him.

Robert Sardello (41, 43) ascribes a spiritual context to the ego as well, asserting that "Egotism means that one is self-centered, self-absorbed," yet having little self-awareness and that individuality "consists of continually giving out to the world as a response to taking in what the world offers." Sardello (44) sees individuality as "the act of inner, conscious awareness shaping, forming, and interiorizing the essence of each moment of experience, endowing experience with reverence and love." Sardello does not view the ego in the traditional Christian context, however, but extols the virtue and wisdom of the world as being there to enrich the soul, having been placed thus by God.

Saral Bohm and Lee Nichol (256) likewise highlight the importance of the world,
