ce (2007) reports that the effects of domestic violence can be devastating. First, there are the physical injuries caused by the abuser. Second, there are the psychological and emotional injuries that are associated with being physically or sexually abused. Some of these injuries and other health conditions are not short-term; in fact, according to Wallace, many victims of domestic violence can have life-long medical conditions as the result of their injuries.

Wallace (2007) also points out that victims, as well as the family in general, often can----as a consequence of domestic abuse---experience unemployment and financial insecurity due to the violence. This is because victims of domestic violence can be absent from work too often and lose their job as a result.
