Proteins and amino acids may be added but the amounts are small and actually have no effect other than to absorb water and taste poorly. Amino acids are added in some drinks but the effects have not been shown.
For this study, the researcher determined if the drinking of energy drinks such as Red Bull a couple of minutes before activity has a significant effect on perceived short term muscle endurance. The use of three of these drinks was compared with use of water for a control condition. The three energy drinks were Red Bull Energy Drink, Vazoom, and Effect. The sport for this study was track and field, with distance running up to 800 meters.
