Hitler Among the Germans

is some sense in the author's argument that we all in one way or another want to see Hitler and the Nazis as insane aberrations. At the same time, the author invites head-shaking of disbelief when he argues on the first page that "Hitler was about as sane as the next fellow" (ix). If that is so, then the meaning of "insanity" no longer has any value. In any case, it is incredible that Binion could sincerely claim that every evil that Hitler did or had done was a result of the breastfeeding habits of his mother. This is one book that nursing mothers should certainly never read, particularly when it is difficult to tell at times whether Binion is saying that Hitler did what he did as a result of too much breastfeeding or too little when the breast was withdrawn after Hitler's mother had her next child.
