"Blonde Ambition" Documentary

oup sees the audience as made up of dupes who are taken in by Madonna's shrewd understanding of ichnography ("Truth or Dare," The Economist 82). Film critic Stanley Kauffmann asks whether Madonna is a symbol of our times and states:

Well, she certainly provides tens of thousands of young people in many countries with hours of rebellion against restraints, as they see them, in their lives and futures. Only one point is worrisome: her audiences may think that by shouting ecstatically while Madonna humps around on a bed wearing a crucifix, they have struck a significant blow for truth, justice, liberty, etc. (Kauffmann 26).

Here is support for an examination of the artifact to see if it communicates more than this superficial message. At the same time, the issue is whether the communication fulfills the requirement of a documentary, which is not socialist realism but the "creative interpretation of actuality" (Jarvie 149).
