Definition of an Alcoholic

For such a person, alcohol can be a "magic" fix, a way of temporarily relieving the anxieties and pressures attendant to these personality problems.

The second set of contributory factors are those related to why people specifically select alcohol as their symptom of personality problems. This seems to be culturally determined. Specifically, if alcohol is available and attractive with respect to one's cultural group, the likelihood that alcohol will be selected as a means of relieving pressures attendant to personality problems is greatly strengthened.
